In Madrid, it doesn’t more central than a two-minute stroll from Plaza Mayor – the epicentre of the city – and this apartment delivers just that. It sits on a leafy street where pavement cafés spill out for alfresco dining and boutiques are waiting to be perused. If you want to get out and explore the other famous sights of Madrid (the Prado perhaps), then the Opera metro station is just a five-minute walk away. Dating back to 1915, there are still art nouveau touches throughout the building. In the apartment itself, you’ll find stained-glass windows and vintage furniture a nod to the past. Modern artworks reminiscent of the 20th century adorn gallery-white walls and French windows open up to a Juliet balcony in the charming living room. If you’re visiting the nearby Mercado San Miguel (100 yards away) for fresh produce, you can make the most of the fully-equipped kitchen.

About Opera y Palacio Real

The small neighbourhood of Opera y Palacio Real sits next to the Royal Palace and its grand squares with manicured gardens. It’s also home to El Teatro Royal, the grand opera house. This part of town has an abundance of space and is far less busy than other parts of central Madrid – the calmness of the area makes it popular with families. You’ll find high-end local shops to peruse, as well as excellent restaurants, in this refined and sedate neighbourhood.
